History
Established in 1995 and fully operational in 2001, YWF is a Local NGO with the drive to assist government and non-governmental efforts in reducing the incidence of poverty and poverty causing factors in deprived communities. YWF works in a number of communities in the country, collaborating with government and non-governmental organizations. It also serves loosely as the Secretariat for coordinating local UN-Habitat issues.
Mission/Vision
YWF’s mission is to harness available resources within or outside poor urban communities to improve individual and collective assets through ethical development practices, with the long term vision of becoming the prime urban development specialist in Ghana and beyond. They seek partnership with international urban development agencies and central governments to bring development to the doorstep of the urban poor.
Y&WF is serving as a catalyst for actualization the potentials of individuals, institutions and communities and set the following as objectives towards the goal:

To develop local institutions and systems for urban development;

To assist urban poor in establishing collaboration with government and NGOs;

Assist communities in the designing and implementation of urban development projects;

Develop entrepreneurial capacity of urban poor for the improvement of their enterprises;

To increase access to HIV/AIDS information on prevention/stigmatization and discrimination in the urban communities;

Ensure gender balance and inclusiveness in all programs.
